The conductor of Munich Markus Poschner has taken on the role of Principal Conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana in the 2015/16 Season: thanks to this collaboration, the Orchestra has increasingly developed into a highly specialized orchestra throughout Europe. A shared vision, aimed at exploring unusual paths in interpretation and programming, has earned OSI and Markus Poschner numerous international awards, including one of the most important recognitions for classical music, the ICMA 2018, for the DVDs published by Sony with the complete Brahms Symphonies.
Since receiving the Deutscher Dirigenten Preis in 2004, Markus Poschner has been invited by orchestras such as: Staatskapelle Dresden, Bamberger Symphoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Dresdner Philharmoniker, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Wiener Symphoniker, Orchestre National de France, Netherlands Philharmonic, and NHK Tokyo. He has also been a guest at Staatsoper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Oper Frankfurt, Staatsoper Stuttgart, and Opernhaus Zurich. In 2019, he made his debut with the Bayreuther Festspielorchester in Richard Wagner's Walküre in a highly acclaimed performance in Abu Dhabi.
With the Orchestre National de France, Poschner won the prestigious Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in 2020 for the recording of Jacques Offenbach's Maître Péronilla.
Furthermore, since the 2017/18 season, he has been the principal conductor of the Bruckner Orchester Linz, where for his successes in performing Bruckner's works, he was named “Conductor of the Year” in Austria in 2020 and his orchestra was named “Orchestra of the Year” in 2020.
After studying in Munich and serving as an assistant to Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Colin Davis, Markus Poschner was the first Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin. From 2007 to 2017, he held the position of Generalmusikdirektor of the Bremer Philharmoniker. He is also an honorary professor at the University of Bremen since July 2010, and since 2020 at the “Anton Bruckner” University in Linz.
